Add Language Packs in Windows 10
Microsoft created a dedicated page within the Windows 10 Settings app to quickly manage language packs and change the Windows display language. As such, adding language packs in Windows 10 is just a few clicks away. First, open the Settings app by clicking on the Notification icon and then on the “All Settings” button. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Win + I. In the Settings app go to “Time and Language -> Language.” On the right panel Windows 10 will show all the language packs that are currently installed on your system under the Preferred Languages section. By default, Windows sorts all the installed language packs in the order of preference. The language on top of the list is your preferred or default language. To install a language pack, click on the “Add a Language” button.
Windows will now list all the available language packs including individual language variations. Either scroll down to find the language pack you are looking for or use the search bar. Once you find the language you are looking for, select it and click on the “Next” button.
As part of the language pack, if available, Windows will also download additional components like speech and handwriting. If you don’t need them, uncheck those components and click on the “Install” button.
Depending on the language pack and its additional components, it can take some time to download and install the pack.
Once installed, the language pack will be applied automatically on your next reboot. If it is not applied, you can select the language from the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
If needed, you can also change the sorting of preferred languages by clicking on the arrow buttons or by dragging and dropping.
In addition to the language pack, you can also install additional keyboard layouts for that specific language pack. To do that, select the language and click on the “Options” button.
Now, scroll all the way to the bottom to see all the installed keyboard layouts. To add a new keyboard layout, click on the “Add a Keyboard” button, and select the keyboard layout from the list.
Remove Language Packs in Windows 10
If you want to remove a language pack from Windows 10, you first have to change the Windows display language. Go to the language page in the Settings app and select the alternate language from the drop-down menu. If you don’t choose a language before removing, Windows will automatically choose the second preferred language from the installed language packs on your system. Next, find the language you want to remove, select it and click on the “Remove” button. As soon as you click the button, the language will be removed from your system.
