How to Turn Off Spotify Listening Activity
To hide the kind of music you listen to from others, you don’t have to quit Spotify. Instead, open Spotify on your computer and locate your username in the upper-right corner. Note: you need to have the Spotify client downloaded on your PC to be able to access these options. The features aren’t available if you just open Spotify in your browser. Click on the drop-down menu next to the user name and select Settings. Click on “Advanced settings,” scroll down to the Social section, and make sure you’ve toggled off the option that says “Share my listening activity on Spotify.” Alternatively, on an Android device, you’ll have to tap on the cogwheel to access Settings in the Spotify app. Next, scroll down until you find the Social section and disable the “Listening activity” option.
How to Make Your Spotify Playlists Private
If you don’t want to completely hide your listening activity, it’s also possible to just hide specific playlists. If you are on your computer while using Spotify, there are two ways to make the playlist secret. On the left side of the display, you’ll notice a list featuring your playlists and favorite albums. Right-click on the playlist you wish to “make secret” and select that option. It’s also possible to find the playlist by going to Spotify’s main page and clicking on “My library” on the right side. Once you’ve found the playlist you want, right-click it and choose the “Make secret” option. On an Android device, the path you need to follow is quite similar. Find the playlist you want to make private by tapping on “Your library,” then Playlists, and select the one you need from there. Next, tap on the three-dot menu in the top right and swipe down until you find the “Make private” option. If you want to reverse the process, simply follow the same steps and then select the option to “Make public” again.
How to Create a Private Session on Spotify
Creating a Private Session on Spotify allows you to keep your music listening habits to yourself. If you’re using Spotify on your desktop computer, go ahead and click the drop-down menu to the side of your username and go to Settings. Scroll down all the way to the Social section again, but this time toggle on the option that allows you to start a private session. This is the equivalent of Incognito mode, which will allow you to browse the app and listen to songs without leaving a trace. On your Android device, select the cogwheel once again, scroll until you find the Social section, then toggle on a Private session.
