I recently tested out the app myself, and for someone with little video-editing experience, I couldn’t believe how quick and easy it was to create and edit videos. Overview of Features

While app stores are filled with hundreds of video-editing apps, most aren’t exactly user-friendly. Plus, they’re normally filled with ads and charge for all but the most basic features. The VITA app is free on both iOS and Android. There weren’t even any in-app purchases at the time of writing when I tested the Android version. During my week-long test, I didn’t encounter any ads, which was impressive. This made exploring all the available features much easier, especially when you don’t have a pop-up ad after every screen. There is a small banner at the bottom of the screen, but the ads are actually for VITA, such as applying to be an editor and showcasing new music to use. Some of the main features of the app include:

Of course, there are other editing tools as well, such as adjusting the scale, rotating, changing the order of frames/images, and changing the volume to make things more even or stand out more.

Forget complicated menus. When you open the app, you can create a new project, view templates, or change some general app settings. I recommend tapping the settings icon at the top right corner and turning the VITA Watermark setting off. It was enabled by default on the Android app. You can also set the resolution. Otherwise, there aren’t any real settings to deal with. Adding a project is as simple as tapping “New Project” and choosing a file or files from your device. Then you’re taken to the editing window where you have numerous options to choose from, all nicely organized by type. All your current projects are listed on the home screen. When you start a new project, all your options are at the bottom of the screen. Press the checkmark button to apply and save a new edit. Whenever you’re done with a project, simply tap Export, and it will be saved directly to your device.

Adding Effects and Filters

No matter what your project is, you have the option to add various effects, filters, stickers, and text. You can add these frame by frame, or when you pick something, expand it to cover as many frames of your video as you want. With effects, you have options like:

When you add text, choose from numerous fonts, styles, and animations for a truly custom creation. You can also add text in when you choose the Sticker option. Of course, if you can’t find something you love, you can always check out GIPHY, which is included under the Sticker option. Honestly, the most difficult part is trying to figure out what you want to use. With so many options, it’s easy to get carried away, but in a good way.

Including Music

Usually, video-editing apps give you a handful of sound effects or some incredibly boring music tracks. While the selection isn’t massive here, it’s far better than most apps. Pick some soothing classical options or some pop tunes. You can even pick from a variety of sound effects if you don’t need a full song. If you’ve created something yourself, add it directly from within the app. This is a great way to layer your own music into a video without trying to record the video and audio at the same time.

Quick Start Templates

My favorite part of using the VITA app was the templates. At the bottom of the home screen, you only have two options: project and template, so that makes it easy to find the templates section quickly. You could scroll through all the options, but I’d recommend using the categories at the top of the screen. The only downside is I couldn’t find a search feature, which would be great. However, just scroll through to check out the options. These make it quick and easy to get some of the styles and effects you find on popular social media networks. At the time of writing, there was even a Halloween section. Speaking of social media, there are TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube templates. When you choose to use a template, just pick the files you want to use it with, then finish customizing. I had a video created with multiple pictures in less than two minutes. That included some bling effects and music. When you find something you like or would love to use again or in the future, tap the heart to add it to your favorites. Then you don’t have to scroll again to find it.

Useful Tutorials

Final Thoughts

I thoroughly enjoyed using the VITA app to edit videos. It was fun, easy, and helps beginners create the same types of videos they love on social media and online in general. It’s free and includes far more features than I’d ever expect in a free app. In fact, it includes more features than in some paid video-editing apps. I only have two issues. First, a search feature in the templates would be helpful. Also, it does eat battery and can make your device warm, so don’t use it for very long at a time.
